DAME JUG – ARABIC KILN-FIRED

These unique pieces are the almost magical result of firing (cochura) in a historic Arabic kiln and the mastery of potters in Úbeda (Jaén).

Firing up an Arabic kiln requires an extraordinary preparatory effort by the artisans, who with their hands, dedication, and care shape, glaze, and decorate hundreds of pieces—jugs, basins, dishes… even statues!—which will remain inside the kiln for over 30 hours. The fire, fueled by olive pit pulp (orujo), reaches up to 1000ºC, always under the attentive eye of potters who have inherited centuries-old techniques passed down through generations.

When the kiln cools down, singular and unrepeatable objects begin to emerge, with glazes full of subtle hues and the strength of slowly fired clay—created by the hands, traditional techniques, and the alchemy that happens inside the Arabic kiln.
