These unique pieces are the almost magical result of firing in a historic Arab kiln and the mastery of its potters in Úbeda (Jaén). Operating an Arab kiln requires extraordinary prior work by artisans who, with their hands, effort, and dedication, shape, glaze, and decorate hundreds of pieces—pitchers, basins, serving dishes, and even statues!—which will remain in the Arab kiln for more than 30 hours, heated by the orujo (crushed olive pits) until they reach a temperature of 1,000ºC. This process is always under the watchful eye of potters who are familiar with the techniques used for centuries and passed down from generation to generation. As the kiln cools, unique and unrepeatable objects begin to appear, with nuanced glazes and the strength of time-fired clay, created by the hands and techniques of the artisans and the alchemy that occurs inside the Arab kiln.
